Newsletter Issue 3

I hope this email finds you fit and well.

In this our 3rd instalment of the Extreme Kettlebell Newsletter among other things we’ll discuss the benefits of Olympic Weightlifting.

Olympic Weightlifting.

Regardless of whether you are a seasoned athlete, weekend warrior or someone just wanting to get in shape everybody can benefit from performing the lifts known as Weightlifting or the Olympic Lifts. As EKI’s you know the benefits of Kettlebell snatches and clean and jerks, the Olympic or classic variations of these lifts are equally beneficial.

Where the Kettlebell varieties are fantastic for strength endurance and power endurance the Olympic versions are better suited less for the endurance aspect and more for strength, power and acceleration development.

Some of the benefits of Olympic Weightlifting include:
- increased strength, power and speed
- improved body composition
- improved coordination, range of movement, balance and overall athletic ability
- increased bone density
- improved structure and posture

A couple of interesting statistics from Fred Hatfield aka Dr Squat from research taken at the 1964 Mexico Olympics :

“Sports scientists found that Olympic lifters were able to both vertical jump higher than any class of athletes (including the high jumpers), and run a 25 yard dash faster than any class of athletes (including the sprinters).”.

So among other things, if you want to run faster or jump higher the Olympic Lifts will help. The outcome would be different however if the same experiment was carried out today as most if not all athletes would perform Olympic Lifts or variations of them as part of their training.

Other News:
- Congratulations go out to the guys who attended the Advanced EKI last weekend. Special thanks go out to Roscoe, Janke and Jamie who helped sort my tight hips out. They have gotten tighter recently and the guys reminded me of the hip flexor activation that we use on the EKI course to improve deepness in the front squat. I had a squat session yesterday and my hips were much improved, cheers guys! The activation worked wonders as although my hips were tight they obviously weren’t primed or working optimally.

- Guys we would really like to hear from you all and find out how you are getting on with yours and your clients training. If you are putting up good numbers or times or if you are achieving brilliant results with your clients and businesses let us know and we’ll post it on our upcoming newsletters.

- For those who have attended the Advanced Course we are looking to set up a Kettlebell Lifting Club which will meet monthly. Before we move any further with this we need to know who is interested and what your thoughts are.
